Allotment group in Markinch, Fife The idea for allotments in Markinch came about at a Markinch Environmental Action Group meeting in 2008. This started the ball rolling and we haven't looked back since The construction of the site was divided up into 4 phases:- Phase 1 went live in February 2012 and consisted of 32 half plots. Later that year work commenced on a school plot for Markinch Primary School. Phase 2 went live in March 2013 and consisted of 23 half plots and 1 Community Plot. Phase 3 is to be an Orchard and to the Southern edge will be 10 'starter plots'. Against the North wall it is envisaged to restore the Glasshouse which was situated there. Phase 4 is the development of the existing 3 Greenhouses and 40 Cold Frames. These are situated over the North wall and hidden from view. All buildings are requiring restoration, as they are 'listed buildings' they will require funding to restore them to original condition. There is a large covered area which could be utilised as a teaching/learning area and a sheltered circular area which, in the summer, would make an excellent picnic area.
