Design a Gardening Apron Workshop April 2024

We all need to do our bit to reduce the amount of textiles that go to waste every year so we set up a workshop to design and make a gardening apron. What a brilliant afternoon we had, the creative juices were flowing! Everyone had so many cool ideas.

We were delighted to welcome Joyce along from Transition Dundee. She runs lots of sewing and crochet events at Transition. https://www.transitiondundee.com/

We were introduced to the basics of sewing and really all the things we made don’t even need a sewing machine, we just used them to speed things up. Aprons are a really good place to start to get into sewing as they are easy to make. We had a donation of some cool green canvas aprons plus we used old tea towels. You can even make an apron from an old trouser leg, cargo trousers are best. Once you have chosen your material it’s then a case of finding what scraps you can use to make pockets, tool loops, apron strings and any other embellishments you want. It’s amazing once you start looking at fabric scraps how you can suddenly see what they can be used for. Hope you like the results!
