We are very excited to announce a new venture!! Plants are a hugely valuable resource and helping to keep their genetic diversity through seed saving is very important.
The Libraries in Dundee have agreed to help us establish a seed library. This is a FREE resource where we can save our own garden seeds and take them along to swap at the library with other seeds which has been handed in. Saving your own garden seeds from healthy plants helps to preserve diversity in plants that do well in our local area. For example, if you have a great variety of Tomato that has always done well for you why not try to save the seed and give the spares to the library and maybe pick up some seeds of Cosmos flowers in exchange.
This is a new project and the seed box is currently at the Central Library but we hope to be able to move it around the libraries in the city to make it more accessible. If you don't have seeds to swap, don't worry we want to share. Come along and try some seeds for yourself (we are suggesting taking a max of 3 packets per person) and then if you have spares at any time bring a few back. As these are open pollinated garden seeds you may sometimes find a few surprises growing instead of what you expected but that can be part of the fun.
